Sweetlines Sugar Showdown, Presented by Diamondback

Seattle, Washington—Sweetlines, the women-focused, woman-led mountain bike coaching service today announced a full list of categories and awards for the second annual Sugar Showdown Seattle, a two-day freeride mountain bike event for women and girls to be held at Duthie Hill Park in Issaquah, Washington, on July 6-7, 2013.

The multi-day event will include one day of coaching by pro coaches from across North America and one day of competition, as well as an optional meet-the-coaches ride the preceding Friday. Riders can still register for the event, though the participant list is filling up. All spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The organization’s decision to offer a range of awards and prizes this year, including awards honoring volunteerism and rider support, reflects Sweetlines’ focus on building a mountain bike community as well as helping riders improve their skill set. The event will include awards for:

  • Most Improved
  • Best Trick (for Pros)
  • Most Supportive Rider
  • Best Crash
  • Most Creative
  • Best Amplitude
  • Most Volunteer Hours

This year, the Sugar Showdown will offer expanded categories, including two novice categories (ages 10-15 and all ages), four amateur categories (ages 10-15, 16-25, 26-45 and 46+) and a pro/open division, to make the competition portion of the event fair and approachable for all. These categories will also help spectators view the riders’ jumps, drops and overall runs within the context of their age and ability.

Certified coach and Sweetlines founder Kat Sweet believes that these expanded categories and awards will enhance the Sugar Showdown’s goals of rewarding cooperation and creativity rather than the drive to win at all costs: “It’s about more than winning—it’s about building a ‘Sisterhood of Shred.’ The Sugar Showdown does this through its two-day clinic and competition format, which encourages and rewards riders for not only improving their abilities but also supporting each other along the way.”

Sugar Showdown Seattle will be the third dual clinic and competition event hosted by Sweetlines this year, following the Sugar Showdown Lumberyard held in Portland, OR, on January 27 & 28 and the Sugar Showdown Santa Cruz held in California on April 13 & 14.
